Bélom

Jean-Loïc Belhomme (France, 1950) was awarded the silver award of the Euro-Kartoenale 2017 The Soul with this cartoon:

I remember I have one of his albums somewhere on my shelve. It's  'ça occupe'. An album containing light erotic cartoons, published in 1983 by Glénat France (ISBN 2-7234-0351-3).

Panamarenko versus Pat Mallet...

Yesterday I've visited the PANAMARENKO UNIVERSUM exhibition in the MHKA (modern art museum Antwerp). The Belgian artist Henri Van Herwegen (°Antwerp, 1940) aka Panamarenko has become world famous with his imaginary sculptures, aeroplanes, balloons, helicopters...

When I saw the space models created by Panamarenko, I had to think at the flying saucers used by the little green men in the erotic cartoons series created by the French cartoonist Pat Mallet (1939-2012).
I don't know if Panamarenko knows of this cartoons, but there is some resemblance...

A rebrousse-poil (trad. against the grain) by Lionel Labeyrie

One of my latest finds is this cartoon book by the French artist and humorist Lionel Labeyrie (°1949). I think he only published one cartoon album in 1984 "A rebrousse-poil" (Glénat France, ISBN 2-7234-0506-0)
It's full of fun, very well drawn and mostly erotic cartoons. Not surprising if you know that Labeyrie drew cartoons that were published in Lui, Playboy, Pilote and Circus between 1978 and 1983. Labeyrie drew later on also for aviation magazines.

Enjoy some of the cartoons:

One discovery I made in this album was a stunning similarity (plagiarism?) with a cartoon by Jozef De Sutter (James) from Belgium. This was published in the Knokke Heist catalogue from 1982 and is also published in the cartoon anthology "Lijnscherp" (Davidsfonds, 2011). This similarity is not coincidental.

Playboy Cartoons - An orgy of PLAYBOY's Eldon Dedini

I really don't know why ;-) but one of the pages with most hits on our blog is the article "Playboy Cartoons - Phil Interlandi".
Here is some more Playboy stuff, coming from the book An Orgy of Playboy's Eldon Dedini (Fantagraphics Books, 2006, ISBN10 1-56097-727-2, 240 p., full-color)

It's the kind of high quality cartoon book I like. Cartoonist Eldon Dedini was born in 1921 and passed away in 2006.

"For over 45 years, Eldon Dedini has been one of Playboy's most recognizable full-page gag cartoonists. With a masterful watercolor technique that burlesques a broad range of subjects — from East and West Coast urban and suburban adult-hipster to classical Japanese erotic prints — Dedini's most personal cartoons rely on mythology and legend, evoking a bucolic sexually liberated paradise that leaves its reader lingering over the imagery long after the gag registers. An Orgy of Playboy's Eldon Dedini is the first retrospective collection of his work and gathers in one volume the most sophisticated, elegant — and funny — gag panels of the past six decades. An Orgy of Playboy's Eldon Dedini includes Dedini: A Life In Cartoons, an exclusive documentary DVD directed by Anson Musselman, celebrating the life of the artist via interviews conducted with the artist in 1998 and again in 2005, painting a vivid portrait of a man who helped define the Playboy style of the swinging 1960s." (Fantagraphics Books)

"God! Your Jackson Pollock always puts me in a frenzy."

"The talk around Bethlehem is that we're Jesus freaks."

"This is all very well for you Roman soldiers, but what we Sabine
woman really need is a children's day-care center!"

"Give the peasants a tax rebate an they
behave like naughty little children"

"Is this something you learned on the cruisades?"

Coco - Der Satyr (sexdemon cartoons...)

Almost Valentine's Day... time again for an erotic cartoon book, this time by Giuseppe Coco (born in Italy, 1936).

"Der Satyr - Wie wärs mit einem kleinen Sexdämon?" (German edition by Stalling, 1981, ISBN 3-7979-1698-1)
translated: "The satyr - how about a little sexdemon?"

"Kürze Hörner, ein Ringelschwanz und Spitzohren sind die Kennzeichnen der Satyrn, jener neckischen kleinen Sexdämonen, die schon mit den Griechinnen ihre erotischen Spiele trieben. Wer sind sie wirklich und wie kommt man an solch ein liebestolles Wesen heran? Coco gibt mit spitzer Feder Auskunft."

satyr by Coco
Short horns, a curled tail and pointed ears are the characteristics of the satyr (*) , that small sexdemons that already played their erotic games with the ancient Greek woman. Who are they really and how does one approach such a great love creature? Coco gives us al the information this mythical creature with his sharp pen.

(*) the Cultural Dictionary defines satyr as a creature in classical mythology who was part man and part goat. Satyrs were famous for being constantly drunk and for chasing nymphs. They were companions of Dionysus.

The hit ratio of erotic cartoons

I noticed that one the most popular articles on this blog is the 'playboy cartoons' article about Phil Interlandi.
'playboy cartoons' gives 1.720.000 results in Google and I guess that's the reason for its popularity.

For those who love the erotic cartoon genre, I'll recommend to watch the YouTube video "Erotic Theater",  featured by the great cartoon site: cartoonist.name). It's a huge collection of erotic (some of you will call some cartoons 'pornographic') by one of the finest contemporary cartoonists Michael Zlatkovsky who had an exposition in the ECC last year.

Warning:  some cartoons in the video show "explicit adult material"!
