Pol Leurs - Cartoons 4 versus Westvleteren 12

Today I read that the specialized American website RateBeer.com once again crowned the Belgian Trappist Westvleteren 12 as the best beer in the world.

Westvleteren XII
What has this to do with cartoons?
Well, Pol Leurs was so kind to treat all the visitors who attended the opening of his and Pawel Kuczynsky's exhibition in the ECC last weekend , with a nice Luxembourgish blond beer. It was a fine beer, but as a Belgian I must say that the best beer in the world is Belgian: Westvleteren 12...

I ignore the existence of a website  named ratecartoon.com or ratecartoonbook.com. But if someone of our readers has the intention to set up such a site, I recommend to rate the cartoons as well as the four cartoon books  of Pol Leurs  in the upper upper top of the list. This is top!
Poleurs Cartoons 4 (Hengen, ISBN 978-2-9599727-2-0)  is once again an excellent cartoon book with top class cartoons.
But it is as with Westvleteren 12... the book is hard to find and it's a limited edition. So hurry if you want to have a copy !

In memorium Jurij Kosobukin (1950 - 2013)

This week we received the sad news that Jurij Kosobukin passed away after a long illness. I know his cartoons since a long time. I first saw many of them in the catalogues of the Knokke Heist Cartoon festival.

Belgian cartoonist Cost (Constantin Sunnerberg) sent us a nice tribute cartoon to the artist.
Jurij, we'll miss your cartoons!

Discipline is everything by Kurt Halbritter (1924-1978)

I remember I found this little book a few years ago by accident in a secondhand bookshop for 2,5 euro. The nice thing about it  is that there's an original drawing in it by Kurt Halbritter himself, signed 1.X.'60. (1960).

The book was published in 1954 (Verlag Bärmeier&Nikel, Frankfurt Am Main). It's a collection of drawings  and cartoons about recruiting for military service. The soldiers are universal soldiers, not belonging to any nation.

Kurt Halbritter is mentioned in Who's Who in Satire and Humour - Band2. You can find out more about him in Wikipedia.
