Branded Nation

Pol Leurs, not only one of Luxemburg's leading cartoonists, but also one of the most talented cartoonists in Europa and beyond, informed us about a new cartoon book being published in Luxemburg: Branded Nation.

The government branding strategy of the Luxembourg Government has the declared objective of restoring the somewhat tarnished image of Luxembourg. Today the key word is "Let's make it happen"! As part of the 50th anniversary of the Ecological Movement, the CartoonArt.lu and Ecological Movement associations invited caricaturists, cartoonists and illustrators to give THEIR point of view of the Branded Nation. Their contributions gave birth to a very stimulating album, which pushes the reader to think, discuss, laugh. Let yourself be carried away by the creativity and imagination of the 22 designers, by the diversity and richness of their 80 works.

CartoonArt.lu is a Luxembourg non-profit association for the promotion of caricature, cartoon, press drawing and comic strip through publications, exhibitions, information stands, information exchanges, contacts exchange, etc. .

It is aimed at cartoonists, caricaturists and cartoonists, friends and patrons as well as art lovers and collectors. Support CartoonArt.lu as a sympathizing member with an annual fee of 20 euros.

More Tie Cartoons...

Having read my sentence "It's the only tie book cartoon I know of ..." in a previous article, Jean-Marie was so kind to mention another cartoon book on this theme. It is a portfolio of about forty boards in 21 x 34 cm format, published by Enoteca Italiana.

Year after year this wine association organized a commercial event entitled "Week of Wines" which also presented an exhibition of cartoons related to wine associated with a theme, each time different (gastronomy, theater, discovery of America, art, cinema, the Middle Ages, love, ecology, music ...) which gave rise to the publication of a beautiful portfolio of these works.

The portfolio on the theme of elegance, created for the 25th edition, is dedicated to ties. It has the peculiarity of presenting on the cover folds giving it the appearance of a jacket under which is a shirt with tie coming out of the collar.

God Save The Football

For those who still have time to watch some cartoons during the 2018 World Cup, I present this small book published in 1996. Not for the World Cup, but for the European Championship that took place in England this year.
Containing football cartoons of course.

I contains about 66 football cartoons drawn by Giovanni Sorcinelli  alias GIOX(Italy).

Tie cartoons by Angelo Campaner

Cartoon books can deal with many topics. In this little book, only 24 pages and 24 cartoons, you can see tie cartoons. The book was published in 1999 and is titled: "Cravattironia"

It's the only tie cartoon book I know of...

Angelo Campaner (Italy) won the cover award of the Eurokartoenale 2013 of the ECC.

Yrrahtioneel

I'm fond of the cartoons of Yrrah (Harry Lammertink). I recently found 8 of his books on Marktplaats.nl and could buy all for a very nice price.

This is his first book: Yrrahtioneel, published in 1958 (De Arbeiderspers, Amsterdam):

seems to me that the cartoon on the right side is inspired by Magritte...

Jean-Loïc Belhomme (France, 1950) was awarded the silver award of the Euro-Kartoenale 2017 The Soul with this cartoon:

I remember I have one of his albums somewhere on my shelve. It's  'ça occupe'. An album containing light erotic cartoons, published in 1983 by Glénat France (ISBN 2-7234-0351-3).

BRASSER - Tijdloze Humor

Sometimes there is more than cartoon books. I found this exhibition brochure recently. If you like the work of a cartoonist, even brochures are worth collecting, like this one of the great BRASSER.  This brochure counts 20 pages of which half are filled with advertisements. Fortunately, some advertisements are for cartoon and graphic services. André Nollet and Emiel De Bolle were good friends of Brasser and they are still good Flemish cartoonists.

Halbritters Waffenarsenal

I like the humor of Kurt Halbritter (1924-1978). Last week I received from a German bookshop Halbritters Waffenarsenal (Goldmann Buch 1977, 156 pages, B/W, ISBN 3-442-08462-8).

I agree with this review I found :
