Jacques Carelman "Catalog of Fantastic Things" "Catalogue d'objets introuvables'"

Is it a drawing? Is it a cartoon? Call it whatever you like, but the cartoons as I call them in this Catalog of Fantastic Things by Jacques Carelman are really "fantastic". I own a Duth print (4th edition, 1976), but originally the first catalog was edited in 1969.

"Jacques Carelman was born a week after the great Wall Street crash. He came to Paris in 1956 to devote himself to painting and sculpture, to stage and costume design for the theater, and to book illustrations. He is above all known for his "Catalogue d'objets introuvables" (1969), objects he has subsequently made and exhibited world-wide. Founder-member of the Oupeinpo, he is Regent of the College of 'Pataphysics, where he holds the chair in Helicology..."

Mordillo Collector's Item from Iran

One of the cartoon books I cherish a lot is this Mordillo book, published by the House of Cartoon in Tehran (Iran, 2000?). Although I do not understand Persian, I find the combination between the cartoons and the beautiful Persian print testifies of an exceptional beauty.

Let's have a look:

Humankind and Energy

10 years ago, on the occasion of EXPO 2000 in Hannover (Goethe Institut, Germany), there was a cartoon contest dedicated to Humankind and Energy, a theme that is very actual today. In the  first 53 pages of the catalogue there are a series  of essays with titles as 'Humankind and Energy' (Hilman Hoffmann), 'Electricity suppliers and the cartoon' (by Hannes Rieckhoff) , 'A bird's eye view on the cartoon in Western Europe' (Koos van Weringh), 'Comments on the cartoon in eastern  European countries' (Gotthard Brandler), 'Cartoons outside the modern western world: A universal media for local constellations of life' (Dieter Kramer), 'With the stroke right to the point. Some remarks on the political cartoon' (Günter Marquis).

The cartoons are published according to themes, such as Scarcity of Resources/Dependence on Energy, Visions, Environment Protection / Energy Saving, Nuclear Energy, Renewable Energies, Technologie gone mad, Power Symbols, Light, Mobility Extraordinary and some Witty / Peculiar.

Enjoy some cartoons, some very hot today. I 'll leave it to the reader to allocate the themes to the cartoons.
